Purpose
Regardless of what kind of organisation we run, whether it be to make a profit, meet a social need or both, we will need people to buy into us and be willing to trust us to be doing the right thing and do it well.
Countless writers have pointed out that people need more than a pay cheque to motivate them to bring their whole selves to the workplace. They need purpose and it is the organisations job to provide that purpose.

If people understand why you are doing what you do they are more likely to firstly buy into the purpose, but also stay with it when it doesn’t go according to plan. If customers know that you want to solve their problem or make their lives better in some way they will not worry if you change direction or product design.
They will simply see that you are addressing barriers that have cropped up along the way. You are fighting the fight with them and for them. The “How” and “What” don’t really matter if the “Why” remains consistent.
